If cell is not selected then used a default image from the ImageList which was generated after a skin changing with concerning color.
When cell is selected default image is not changed still and still used there. Because cxGrid doesn’t request a new image and do not give any information about new required color or something.You should disable the AutoAlignment property in this case, because hint window is aligned to the control bottom/center in this case.

I think, the issue will be solved in the nearest release.The problem not in the image. Grid receives an image and don’t gives any required information for an image coloring. I mean, Imagelist doesn’t know which color of the image is required on output, cxGrid doesn’t gives such additional information when image is requested.

This line has been added, because column headers has not been redrawn under hints in some cases.
